Sustainability is more than a practice—it’s part of our design philosophy.

Sustainability is more than a practice—it’s part of our design philosophy. We combine the rich heritage of artisan craftsmanship with a 21st-century approach to eco-conscious design and production. Our dedication to excellence is reflected in the sustainable furniture designs that we offer, honoring our commitment to building a sustainable future.

Our Source Verified Good Wood® Ponderosa Pine is sustainably harvested in the Santa Fe National Forest, supporting forest health and local ecosystems. Meanwhile, our Urban Wood designs repurpose Elmwood from the Rio Grande Valley, transforming invasive species into unique furniture pieces.

Each design is crafted to last using sustainable methods: 100% solar-powered kiln drying preserves wood quality while saving energy, low-VOC waterborne topcoats reduce toxic emissions, and recyclable packaging minimizes waste. Our commitment to these practices reflects our dedication to quality and respect for our planet.

Pfeifer Studio believes in a greener future for the home furnishings industry with a vision to create a world where the manufacturing, selling and delivery of home furnishings no longer harm the environment or human health.

Source Verified Good Wood®

100% of the Ponderosa Pine we use is sustainably harvested from New Mexico’s Santa Fe National Forest, certified by Source Verified Good Wood®, an independent organization dedicated to responsible forest management and ecosystem health. This certification ensures full traceability back to the forest of origin, giving you confidence that your purchase has a positive environmental impact. Choosing our Ponderosa Pine designs contributes to forest restoration efforts, enhancing watershed health and lowering wildfire and disease risks by managing forest density.

Source Verified Good Wood® was founded to address environmental shifts like rising temperatures, extreme weather, and increasing wildfires—urgent indicators of the need to protect our forests.

Working with National Forests and local partners, the program identifies and certifies wood that meets rigorous standards for sustainable management. It focuses on selective removal of overly dense small-diameter trees, allowing remaining trees greater access to sunlight, nutrients, and water, which helps to create more resilient forests. This method also reestablishes natural fire patterns disrupted by fire suppression, fostering ecosystems that support threatened and endangered species.

Pfeifer Studio supports regional businesses, workers, and communities by procuring and manufacturing wood products locally. Our Ponderosa Pine furniture pieces not only represent artful design but also a commitment to environmental stewardship.

Urban Wood

Our exclusive Urban Wood designs are handmade by talented artisans, who craft each piece from locally sourced Siberian Elm. Thriving along the Rio Grande Valley, this non-native species, disrupts local ecosystems by out-competing native species and reducing biodiversity.

The Siberian Elm’s adaptability and rapid growth give it a competitive edge, impacting native forage quality and balance. Partnering with local arborists, we repurpose these invasive trees, turning an environmental challenge into sustainable, one-of-a-kind furniture.

Our commitment extends to responsible harvesting practices. Trained crews assess tree integrity before extraction, minimizing risks during processing and reducing the environmental impact of transporting lumber. This localized approach supports our dedication to eco-friendly production.

Ultimately, our initiative fights waste by transforming trees that would otherwise be discarded into beautiful furniture designs. Each Urban Wood piece connects sustainability with craftsmanship, reflecting a harmony between natural preservation and creative design.

Sustainable Topcoats, Packaging, and Kiln Drying

Our commitment to indoor air quality means every piece is finished with a contract-grade waterborne lacquer that is Formaldehyde-Free, HAPs-Free, Low VOC, and odorless. This eco-conscious finish enhances durability without harmful emissions, making our products beautiful and safe.

We also dry our locally harvested wood in 100% solar-powered kilns. This environmentally friendly process maximizes energy efficiency, ensuring the wood retains its quality and stability while minimizing our carbon footprint.

80% of our packaging materials are made from recyclable cardboard and paper pads, reducing waste and ensuring your furniture arrives safely and sustainably. We strive to balance protection with environmental impact in every part of our packaging process.

By choosing Pfeifer Studio, you’re investing in artisan-handmade, design-focused furniture that honors handmade quality, traditional craftsmanship, as well as the environment.

Artisans and Future Goals

All artisans at Pfeifer Studio receive a fair wage. Beyond that, we serve as a training workshop, welcoming aspiring artisans eager to enter the industry. Here, they gain hands-on experience, honing their skills under the guidance of seasoned craftsmen. Our studio fosters a collaborative, positive, and supportive environment where creativity thrives, and every artisan contributes to producing truly exceptional, handcrafted furniture.

This dedication ensures fair compensation, reflecting our dedication to social responsibility and supporting the well-being of our craftspeople. We believe that true sustainability encompasses not only environmental stewardship but also the fair treatment and economic stability of those who bring our designs to life.

Looking ahead, a key focus for our future is expanding our range of low-VOC stains and finishes, further minimizing the environmental impact of our products.

Additionally, we aim to develop new furniture lines crafted from FSC-certified woods. These initiatives reflect our ongoing commitment to reducing our ecological footprint while maintaining the high quality and aesthetic appeal of our furniture.

By broadening our sustainable offerings, we aim to provide our clients with even more eco-conscious choices, ensuring that every piece aligns with both our values and those of our discerning clientele.
