Sustainable Urban Wood Furniture
| By
Los Olmos Cube and Log Tables
Our exclusive Urban Wood designs are handmade by our skilled artisans at our workshop in New Mexico, where each piece is meticulously handcrafted locally sourced Elm trees. This non-native tree species has become a pervasive force along the Rio Grande Valley, swiftly outcompeting native species and diminishing the ecological balance.
The impact of Siberian Elm on the region includes a reduction in shade-intolerant species, affecting the quality of forage and resulting in an overall decline in species diversity. The rapid takeover of new areas by Elm is facilitated by its remarkable adaptability, high germination rate, and accelerated growth.
Siberian Elm Trees
Collaborating with local arborists, we repurpose these invasive trees into stunning furniture, transforming an environmental challenge into a sustainable and artistic solution. The decision to utilize wood from locally removed trees ensures a natural environment free from contaminants and chemicals commonly found in other lumber sources, contributing to the creation of safer, high-quality pieces.
Furthermore, our commitment to safety extends to the harvesting process. A trained crew assesses the structural integrity of each tree before extraction, minimizing the risk of physical hazards during subsequent sawing and processing stages. This localized approach not only prioritizes safety but also reduces transportation emissions, aligning with our dedication to environmental responsibility.

In essence, our initiative aims to combat waste by repurposing trees that would otherwise be discarded, thereby promoting sustainability and fostering a connection between nature and art in every meticulously crafted Urban Wood design.
