Over many millennia, elements are absorbed by the wood, transforming it bit by bit and replacing it with stone. Petrified wood logs are unique – each of these natural beauties displays the random, individual organic markings of time, producing variations in color and patterns.
A petrified wood log table is formed as a fossil when a tree is buried by sediment such as volcanic ash and protected from decay by oxygen and organisms. Then groundwater rich in dissolved solids flows through the sediment replacing the original plant material with carbon, silica, calcite, pyrite or another inorganic material. Each genuine petrified log table measures 10 - 12 diameter x 16-18 inches high, and weighs 90+ lbs. Petrified wood log tables possess a richness and character that naturally spans the realms of wood and stone.
